Tutorials and Software Resources for Webmasters

There are presently no known DoD or U.S. Navy courses that deal specifically with the skill set required of Collateral Duty Webmasters, nor is any "enterprise" software available to the entire fleet that one can use to design, develop, and maintain a publicly-accessible web site.  If your unit webmaster needs or wants training and/or web site development to perform the collateral duty as assigned, it it suggested that many comprehensive, excellent sources are available on the WWW.

There are also many software applications that are "freeware" and can be used if there are no prohibitions against the software being used in an other than private capacity.  Check the fine print before you download the software, and do not download "shareware" software or software with a given time limit prior to purchase.  This does not, of course, preclude the unit from purchasing training and/or web site development software for use by the collateral duty webmaster and his/her assistant.

The place to start looking for the tools mentioned above is a large search engine, such as Yahoo, MSN, Google, DogPile, etc.  Simply enter the term you are searching for and research the results, (e.g., "HTML Tutorials" or "freeware web site authoring software.")
